Since our Executive Director Kelly Bates’ departure in August, Access Strategies Fund has engaged in an in-depth process of organizational assessment and strategic direction setting. Working with Third Sector New England, (a capacity building non-profit which has guided numerous organizations through executive transition), Access is taking a fresh look at how it will align its resources for greatest impact.
This planning process is guided by a Transition Team consisting of board members and key stakeholders: Dayna Cunningham, Jeannette Huezo, David Moy, Diana Y. Salas, Suzanne Lee and Maria Jobin-Leeds. At the outset Access’ board has reaffirmed its historic commitment to a vision of a just society:
We strive for the day, not too distant in our future, where every individual and group in our society has the power, respect, and resources to improve their lives, family and community.
To focus more clearly, the Access programming will continue to be on Movement Building Grant Making and taking an active role hosting, participating in and facilitating Participatory Thought Leadership among progressive movement builders. We will continue to make targeted funding available to our grantees and plan to have an open grant application process in the spring of 2014.
During the executive transition– which is expected to last into the spring of 2014—TSNE consultant P Stewart Lanier is serving as Interim Executive Director and Transition Consultant supporting internal operations, program management, and facilitation of the Transition Team.
Some of our partners may notice that for a time our attention is slightly more concentrated on planning and organization development. We assure you that any reduction in our presence in the movement, community and with our partners is only temporary! Our commitment to be fully present and engaged with our partners in movement building is unwavering–we know that our place is truly on the streets and in the neighborhoods where change leadership is alive and growing. But for a “moment” our long-term effectiveness will be strengthened by taking this time to sharpen our focus and prepare to engage a new executive leader. We thank you for your patience with us and we welcome your feedback, and encouragement. The perspectives and needs of our partners are integral to our planning and decision making. We will post notice on our website, Facebook page and through our mailing list when we are ready to accept applications for our director position.
